Meet the Sisters, Part II : Summer

I was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana along with my sister Treasure. You remember, the much older, wiser, more popular one. I have lived in Houston for most of my life now. My husband and I have a wonderful home  in the Heights a mile away from my sister. I have a beautiful 10 year old little girl named Abbott and another little girl on the way. I love to travel, especially to places with beautiful architecture and food. Honestly, almost all of my travels revolve around food! I absolutely adore my family and the ocean and hope that one day I will be able to be there full time. Those are the things that make me the most happy...although anything design related is a very close second!

From an early age I can remember always wanting to rearrange my room when it got stale and I needed something fresh. I watched our mom closely as she was constantly decorating/redesigning our houses or those of close friends and family. She has an impeccable eye and has been a my role model ever since.

After a long stint in the beauty industry, I decided I needed a change. A friend introduced me to couple who was looking for the right person to run their antique store so I jumped at the chance! In 2006 I got the job of a lifetime working for the master of design himself, Brian Stringer, and his lovely and also very talented wife, Kathi. It was here I took my first real steps into the design world. Even though I had no prior formal schooling or training Brian and Kathi took me under their wings and showed me the true art of interiors and from there I took off. I learned everything from the history and origin of antiques and textiles all the way down to the back office management and finally showroom staging, under the watchful eye of Kathi, of course. Unfortunately in 2009 Brian and Kathi decided it was time to retire and live the good life. All good things must come to an end they say. Brian passed away in December of 2016. I feel so incredibly grateful knowing that his passion for design and knowledge will always be a big part of me.

From there I went on to work part time at Walter Lee Culp. For those of you who aren't familiar with this company, it is a trade only fabric house that has some of the most beautiful textiles I have ever seen. It was probably the most influential for Abbott Rion Pillows. I collected every swatch I could get my hands on and dreamed of textiles until our launch in 2017.

In 2010 I was offered a wonderful opportunity to get back into the design world and work for Vieux Interiors, where I'm currently still employed. My role as a buyer has given me the opportunity to focus on the things I love. I travel to markets and fairs to find the most unique pieces for our already beautiful showroom. I love being able to hand select the art, furniture, lighting and of course my true love, pillows. When anyone comes to the store looking for pillows they all point to me. They call me the pillow whisperer...thus Abbott Rion Pillows was born!

I'm looking forward to what's ahead and am excited to share this journey with all of you!

Meet the Sisters, Part 1: Treasure

For those of you who don't know us, we wanted to introduce ourselves. Since I'm the older, wiser, more popular sister, I'll start.

I was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana and have been living in Houston, Texas for about 18 years after a stint in Baton Rouge and Austin. My boyfriend and I have a house in the Heights with our 8 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback...who is currently snoring on the couch next to me. In my spare time I love traveling, eating, cooking, drinking wine, and spending time with my family and friends. That's in no particular order but wine seems to play a role in all of those.

Growing up, our mom was constantly redecorating/redesigning our house, my dad's office, other people's houses, stores we'd walk into, anything she could! One of our weekend outings was to walk around houses that were under construction (breaking and entering, anyone??). I always enjoyed it and know that her influence has a made a huge impact in my daily life both as a wonderful mom but also because she has such impeccable style. My childhood aspirations of becoming a Fashion Designer were put on standby when I realized that I didn't want to live in New York so I settled on a degree in Visual Merchandising and Consumer Science. That way I was able to use my eye for fashion and design and put it to a viable career without having to move north. I don't do cold weather.

I've been working in the beauty industry for over 18 years. For the past 15 years, I've been the Manager of cutLoose as well as Education Coordinator for Bumble & bumble for the past 5. Both of these venues have given me the ability to express myself creatively. I've worked on various events and projects both inside the salon and out which included interior styling, wardrobe styling and design.

After much talk, over wine of course, Summer and I decided the next step was for us to combine our talents and passion and branch off onto something that we can call our own.

Here's to the future!

Happy Fall!

Happy Fall y'all! I know it's technically been Fall for a few weeks but here in Houston we haven't felt it until now.

So, I'm really awful about sitting down in front of a computer for any amount of time when I'm not at my "real job" but I'm trying to get better. Welcome to my first official blog post! I appreciate you reading!

Summer and I have had a busy couple of months. I took a two week long buying trip/vacation to Turkey and Greece. Summer just returned from a long weekend at High Point Market, looking for inspiration and to make purchases for her full time job at Vieux Interiors.

It was my first time to both of those countries and I'm dying to return. My favorite city was Istanbul - it blew my mind! It’s full of so much history, incredible food, people and of course, TEXTILES!  Since we're new to the pillow biz, I was mostly there to make connections, look around and make a few small purchases. I found an awesome fabric guy whose family has been in the business for years and they also make beautiful rugs.

The city inspired me like no other and I highly recommend going if you haven't yet...and once they lift the travel ban :-/ If you are thinking about a trip let me know and I'll connect you with our tour guide. She was awesome AND is a 7th generation Istanbulite so she knows the city in and out.

This is the view from our hotel in the Old City. That’s the Blue Mosque and Bosphorus River.

Dinner view from Mikla.

So many choices!

We haven’t had a chance to add these three to the website so if you’d like more info send us an email!

I’ll sign off for now! Check back in a few days for my recap on Greece.

Go Astros!!
